Message to My Younger Self
Looking Back with Wisdom
As we grow older, we often wish we could share the wisdom we’ve gained with our younger selves. This space is for those reflections, offering insights on mental health, self-compassion, and the pursuit of dreams.
This section invites you to pause and reflect on your own journey… with painting, sketching, journalling, or contemplation….
A Message to My Younger Self
We all have moments where we wish we could go back and offer guidance to our younger selves. As I sat with this question, here’s what I would tell mine…
Dear Younger Self,
- Embrace Your Gifts: I would tell myself that you are gifted and you have gifts to share with the world. Don’t be afraid to explore and nurture your unique interests and talents.
- Be Kinder to Yourself: Everyone makes mistakes, and it’s important to learn from them with self-compassion, not harsh criticism. Don’t be afraid to try new things, and be kind to yourself as you learn and grow.
- Focus on Yourself: I would remind myself not to prioritize the opinions of others over my own happiness. Focus on what makes you feel good, explore your interests, and discover what truly brings you joy, regardless of external validation or if others share the same interests.
- Healing and Growth: I would offer reassurance by saying that the relationship with yourself and others will heal over time. Trust the process and allow yourself to move forward with love and understanding.
- Reclaim Your Roots: I would encourage myself to connect back with my cultural and indigenous roots and explore the ancient mindfulness art of Qigong I learned as a child, even if others doubt it. Trust your intuition and what resonates with you, and feels like home to you. Eventually, you’ll become the expert on your interets and talents.
- Seek Support: Most importantly, I would tell myself to seek professional sooner… A trusted adult or good therapist, especially a kind and nurturing counselor, can provide invaluable support and guidance on your journey. The support of a compassionate counsellor can offer a safe and objective place to share what is on your heart and mind, in a confidential space.
- Embrace Balance: While education is important, I would also advise saying yes to opportunities for work and internships. Gaining practical experience can be invaluable alongside your studies. Remember to take time to rest, eat well, and relax.
- Prioritize Emotional Well-being: Building emotional stability is crucial. Focusing on your inner peace and happiness will empower you to navigate life’s challenges and create a fulfilling future with resilience.
- Live with Joy: Never lose sight of what truly makes you happy. Let that be your guiding light on your journey through life.
